US consumers' median one-year inflation expectation rose 0.3 percentage point to 3.9 percent in September, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said Wednesday. It was the highest reading since May 2023.

Longer horizons moved less.

The three-year measure increased 0.1 point to 3.3 percent, while the five-year measure held at 3.0 percent. Expected household spending growth rose 0.3 point to 5.5 percent, also the highest since May 2023.

Expected income growth edged up to 3.1 percent. The perceived chance of losing a job fell to 13.5 percent, its lowest since December 2024, while the chance of finding another job increased to 46.1 percent.

The survey covered about 1,300 household heads from September 1 through September 30.
