German industrial production rises 2.0% as construction offsets autos

German industrial production rose 2.0 percent in August from July after seasonal and calendar adjustment, Destatis said Wednesday. Output was 2.3 percent above August 2025.

Construction led the gain.

Construction output climbed 9.3 percent, including a 13.1 percent increase in specialized construction and building completion work. Machinery and equipment production rose 5.3 percent. Automotive production fell 5.4 percent.

Industry excluding energy and construction increased 0.6 percent. Capital goods output rose 1.2 percent, consumer goods gained 0.6 percent and intermediate goods declined 0.2 percent. Energy production fell 0.4 percent.

Destatis revised July's monthly decline to 1.2 percent from 1.1 percent. Production in the three months through August was 0.4 percent above the prior three months.
