Carson Zorn of Gulf Coast News reported that an e-bike battery caused a structure fire in Estero. An Estero Fire Rescue statement confirms the response and the battery finding.
The department said the battery overheated and began sparking. San Carlos Park Fire Protection and Rescue Service District assisted Estero crews, and firefighters extinguished the fire before it caused further damage.
The public statement does not give an address, report an injury, identify the battery or charger, or estimate the damage. It identifies no continuing hazard, so this recap does not carry an active breaking flag.
Estero Fire Rescue advised residents to use the charger made for the device, follow the manufacturer's instructions, keep batteries away from heat and direct sunlight, and avoid charging near an exit. Swelling, unusual heat, leaking, odors or hissing can signal a battery problem. Anyone who sees smoke or fire should get outside and call 911.
