Tokyo inflation rises to 2.7 percent as water charges jump 65.6 percent

Tokyo consumer prices rose 2.7 percent in September from a year earlier, accelerating from 1.9 percent in August, the Statistics Bureau said Friday. The index excluding fresh food also rose 2.7 percent, up from 1.8 percent, while the index excluding fresh food and energy rose 3.0 percent from 2.0 percent.
The increase was broad. Water charges rose 65.6 percent and added 0.24 percentage points. Eating out rose 4.7 percent and added 0.30 points.
Energy moved the other way. Prices in that group fell 1.9 percent and subtracted 0.08 percentage points from the annual rate.
