Telemedicine platforms with at least 100,000 cumulative registrations would have to apply for certification under proposed South Korean rules announced Sunday by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The requirements are still proposals. The ministry plans to accept comments from October 19 through November 9 on amendments covering telemedicine operations and administrative sanctions.
Platform operators would report their service name, operating methods, fees and measures to protect information. Certification would assess platform functions, identity checks, information protection and the suitability of operations, according to the ministry's release.
The package would also establish administrative penalties for breaches of platform reporting and certification obligations. The ministry said it would consider public and institutional comments before finalizing the amendments.
