Alcoa reported $483m in third-quarter net income, up from $407m in the second quarter and $232m a year earlier, in its October 15 results.

Adjusted profit moved the other way. It fell to $485m from $562m in the preceding quarter, while revenue declined to $3.704bn from $3.966bn. The company attributed the sequential rise in reported profit partly to favorable valuation changes on energy contracts and its Ma’aden shares.

Cash ended the quarter at $4.4bn, including $2.6bn of financing for the planned AliGroup acquisition. That balance is not a measure of cash generated by operations, which totaled $643m during the quarter.

Alcoa said South32 shareholders approved the acquisition on Thursday. It expects to complete the transaction in the first half of 2027.
