NWS tracked a possible funnel cloud near Big Cypress, then 55 mph winds near Alligator Alley

The National Weather Service tracked a strong storm capable of producing a funnel cloud near Big Cypress National Preserve shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday. A later storm carried possible 50 to 55 mph gusts near mile marker 30 on Alligator Alley. Both special weather statements expired.

The National Weather Service issued two special weather statements touching inland Collier County Saturday afternoon. Both have expired.

The first Weather Service statement said radar was tracking a strong storm capable of producing a funnel cloud near Big Cypress National Preserve, 24 miles east of Chokoloskee. Possible wind gusts were 45 to 50 mph.

A later storm crossed Alligator Alley

A second special weather statement warned of 50 to 55 mph gusts near the Miccosukee Service Plaza. Mile marker 30 on Alligator Alley was among the listed locations.

The statements expired at 3:45 and 4:45 p.m. A closing Weather Service check found no active alert touching Lee or Collier counties.

Did the Weather Service confirm a tornado?
No. The first statement said the storm was capable of producing a funnel cloud and warned that funnel clouds can occasionally touch down.
Where were the strongest winds expected?
The later statement listed 50 to 55 mph gusts near the Miccosukee Service Plaza and included mile marker 30 on Alligator Alley among the affected locations.
Are either of the statements still active?
No. They expired at 3:45 and 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
