Eurostat lowers final August euro area inflation reading to 3.2 percent

Euro area consumer prices rose 3.2 percent in August from a year earlier, Eurostat said Thursday. The final reading is one tenth below the September 1 flash estimate and up from 2.9 percent in July.

Energy drove the increase. Its annual rate climbed to 14.3 percent from 10.3 percent and contributed 1.29 percentage points to headline inflation. Services contributed 1.43 points, though their annual rate eased to 3.0 percent from 3.3 percent.

The measure excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco slowed to 2.4 percent from 2.5 percent. Prices rose 0.4 percent during August. Annual inflation increased in 20 member states, fell in six and was unchanged in one.
