Japan core machinery orders rise 5.2 percent after July decline
A 5.2 percent August increase lifted Japan's core private-sector machinery orders to ¥1,069.8bn from ¥1,016.9bn in July, the Cabinet Office reported. The seasonally adjusted measure excludes orders for ships and from electric power companies.
July had fallen 3.7 percent.
The broader total moved differently: machinery orders received by the survey's 280 manufacturers fell 3.7 percent in August. That series includes categories outside the core private-sector measure, including orders from governments and overseas customers.
The figures are orders received by manufacturers, rather than completed investment spending. The Cabinet Office adjusts the component series separately, so their seasonally adjusted values need not add exactly to the adjusted total.
