Tequila Gordon, described as a Cape Coral resident and a medical assistant studying to become a nurse, told the outlet she was driving home with her son when she saw the crash.

She said she called 911 at 10.55, and that she and another passer by found the driver about thirty feet from the wreck and began looking for a pulse and doing compressions while the car burned. "I remember just the car was still on fire, and you can hear all of the crackling in the car, and it sounded like it wanted to just explode," she said.

She also described what she says she saw beforehand, a car passing her at speed with no lights on, the back of it swerving, and the driver losing control before it struck the median and then a tree.

That is one person's recollection of a few seconds at night. It is not a determination by anyone in a position to make one. No authority has stated a cause, the investigation is described as ongoing, and nothing here attributes fault to the man who died, who cannot answer it.

Gordon told the outlet she empathises with the family. "I lost my mind last night for somebody else's child," she said.
