Floodwater returned to Poinciana Village after Tuesday evening's rain, with water reaching partway up some vehicle wheels. Brandt reported that one resident's car remained outside the neighborhood for three hours because of the water.
The National Weather Service had placed west-central Collier County under a flood advisory Tuesday evening. The advisory warned that water was collecting in low lying and poor drainage areas. It expired at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The neighborhood is already in the middle of a county stormwater project. Collier County's project page says the existing pipes, inlets and structures have reached the end of their useful lives.
The project replaces the drainage system with larger pipes at 19 connections to perimeter ditches and adds one more connection. The county scheduled construction from April 2026 through spring 2027. Gulf Coast News reported Wednesday that the work is underway.
What changes for residents
The flood advisory has ended, but the neighborhood drainage replacement is not complete. Collier County schedules the work through spring 2027.
