Mission Produce plans three facility closures and workforce cuts after Calavo deal

Mission Produce plans to close three facilities and cut jobs as it integrates Calavo Growers, according to a Form 8-K filed Wednesday afternoon. The company completed the acquisition May 28.

The filing says operations in Swedesboro, New Jersey, will be consolidated into one facility. Dallas-area operations will be combined at a Garland, Texas, site, and Calavo's Jacksonville, Florida, facility will close.

The job count is not disclosed. Mission Produce expects about $1.4m in severance and related benefits, $8.6m in accelerated depreciation and $5.4m in asset-retirement obligations. It cannot yet estimate lease termination costs or the total charges and future cash costs.

The company reached the restructuring decision September 11. The filing gives no completion date.
