The report says the woman was driving a 2019 Kia Optima at low speed in the parking lot of 4901 Palm Beach Boulevard. Troopers told the outlet that the car entered a grassy island for an unknown reason, struck an unoccupied bicycle chained to a metal pole, and caught fire at the front.
Firefighters removed the woman before the car was fully engulfed, according to the patrol account published by Gulf Coast News. She was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.
FHP is investigating whether the woman experienced a medical episode before the crash, the outlet reports. That is an open question, not a finding. The woman has not been named, and no cause or fault determination has been released.
The state dispatch board first carried the call as a fatality at 5179 Palm Beach Boulevard and reported NO ROADBLOCK. The fuller patrol account places the crash in the parking lot at 4901 Palm Beach Boulevard.
