The Hendry County Sheriff's Office released the 911 recording that preceded the fatal shooting of Edward Young Jr., a Lehigh Acres man. Reporter Tayeba Hussein at the Fort Myers News-Press and Naples Daily News (subscription) published the recording Friday.

In the ten minute call, a man identifies a white Chevrolet Colorado, gives its plate and reports that it is swerving while traveling east toward LaBelle. He supplies route updates as a deputy closes in. Once the caller says a deputy is behind the pickup, the dispatcher tells him to stop following.

Deputies later shot Young after the stop on August 29. The sheriff's office has said gunfire was exchanged. The recording establishes why deputies were looking for the pickup. It does not establish whether the later use of force was lawful.
