Cape Coral Parkway closes a leg of Vincennes Street overnight from nine on Tuesday, the second of eight intersections being rewired, with the other six queued for the week of 31 August

Cape Coral Parkway and Vincennes Street go to an overnight partial closure from 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Gulf Coast News reports.

Northbound and southbound traffic on Vincennes will be detoured. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Cape Coral Parkway itself will remain open.

The newsroom reports the same arrangement was in place from 9 p.m. on Monday at Cape Coral Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard, with Del Prado traffic detoured and the parkway open.

The work is the rewiring of traffic signals and pedestrian poles on the six laning of Cape Coral Parkway East. No end time is given for either overnight closure, and no detour route is given for either cross street.

What is scheduled after Tuesday

Crews return in daylight on Thursday and Friday, 27 and 28 August, to single right lane closures to complete the pedestrian pole rewiring at Del Prado and Vincennes. Gulf Coast News carries that with an if needed attached to it.

In the week of 31 August, single right lane daytime closures are planned throughout the week to rewire pedestrian poles at six remaining intersections: Chiquita Boulevard, Skyline Boulevard, Pelican Boulevard, Palm Tree Boulevard, Coronado Parkway and Leonard Street.

Contractors will adjust the work based on traffic direction and time of day, the newsroom reports.

Eight intersections, and where these fit

The Cape Coral Breeze reported in May, from a city spokesperson, that the project scope includes rewiring eight signalized intersections between Chiquita Boulevard and Del Prado Boulevard.

Two intersections are named in this week's schedule and six in the schedule for the week of 31 August. That is eight, and Chiquita and Del Prado, the endpoints of the range the Breeze describes, both appear in the lists.

That reading is this desk placing two published lists next to one another. No agency has stated a completion date for the rewiring, and the wider project contains a good deal more than it. The Breeze put anticipated completion of the whole job in the fall.

The city page confirms the project, not this week

The City of Cape Coral carries the project on its Public Works Operations pages as the Six Lane Improvement Project.

That page gives the location as Cape Coral Parkway East between Triton Court East and Cape Coral Street and SE 15th Avenue, describes a roughly 2.3 million dollar effort resurfacing and restriping to six lanes, and records that City Council approved the work on 1 April at 2.37 million dollars. It states the expansion runs to six continuous lanes between Coronado Parkway and Del Prado Boulevard, with the roadway resurfaced and the signals upgraded.

Its timeline stops in May 2026, at the start of lane closures in the week of 11 May. It carries nothing about this week. Three other city addresses were tried for a written closure advisory and returned nothing, and the city's project updates page does not mention Vincennes, Del Prado or this project. The schedule above is therefore the newsroom's account, attributed to it, and not a document the city has published.

The name is worth noting for anyone who goes looking. Gulf Coast News calls it the Cape Coral Parkway 6-Lane Expansion Project. The city files it as the Six Lane Improvement Project.

The pattern has changed since May

When the closures began in the week of 11 May they were daytime and off peak, from 9 a.m. until 3.30 p.m., limited to the outside lanes of Cape Coral Parkway with at least two lanes open in each direction.

What is running now is a different arrangement: the parkway stays open and the cross street closes, overnight. A driver who learned the spring pattern should not assume it.

The Breeze also recorded the rest of the scope from the city: nine new signal heads on existing signal poles and mast arms, removal of the median between Triton Court East and Manor Court to build a longer turn lane, additional signage, removal of 33 street trees inside the clear distance of the new travel lanes, and replacement of curb and gutter and paver sidewalks along the widened lanes.
