Cape Coral firefighters rescue stranded drivers from flooded roadway after extinguishing vehicle fire

Both responses ended Monday.

Carson Zorn at Gulf Coast News reported Tuesday morning that Cape Coral firefighters helped motorists from a flooded roadway after crews extinguished a separate NE 31st Terrace vehicle fire. The Cape Coral Fire Department's public post says Engine 4 and Rescue 4 assisted the stranded motorists between Lowe's and Cape Coral High School.

The department said crews blocked the flooded area with fire line tape, cones and barricades. It told drivers not to go around the barriers and to use another route when a road is flooded or blocked.

Earlier Monday, Ladder 5 and Rescue 5 responded to a vehicle fire on NE 31st Terrace. The department said firefighters extinguished it without injuries or damage to nearby structures.

The department had cleared from the flooded roadway and extinguished the fire by the time it posted its account. This recap therefore does not carry a breaking flag.
