Cape Coral police now say the child hospitalized Sunday after being found in water behind a home is in stable condition, the WINK Digital Team reports.

Gulf Coast News reporter Nicole Kikkert separately reports that a Cape Coral Police Department representative said the child had been stabilized and identified him as an 18 month old boy. The outlet says the child was taken to Cape Coral Hospital.

Both newsrooms attribute the medical update to Cape Coral police. Neither links a public police or fire release about the incident.

The condition is the change from Sunday's initial account, when the child had been transported and no condition was available. No active emergency response or continuing public hazard is reported.
