Cape Coral put a precautionary boil water notice over a 43 acre stretch of the southwest of the city at 7.22 this morning, and the shape covers the streets police closed on Saturday for a water main break.

The city gives the break address as 909 Cape Coral Parkway West and the cause as a water main break. The record carried no lift date when the city's map was read at ten past eight.

Households inside the shape should boil tap water at a rolling boil for one minute before drinking it, cooking with it, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes, until the city clears the notice. The city publishes polygons rather than street lists, so its own map is the only thing that settles whether a particular address is inside.

What the area covers

Because a street name on a record does not tell a resident whether they are inside, this desk took the city's own polygon and ran it against the city's own street and address layers.

Ten streets have segments inside the shape, all of them in the 33914 zip code: Skyline Boulevard, Cape Coral Parkway West, Southwest 43rd Lane, Southwest 44th Street, Southwest 45th Street, Southwest 46th Street, Southwest 47th Street, Southwest 47th Terrace, Southwest 8th Place and Southwest 9th Place. Skyline Boulevard alone accounts for twenty of the fifty named segments.

The city's address layer puts 367 active address points inside the boundary. They are not all single houses. Ninety two are condominium records, in buildings the city lists as Malabar, Belvedere, Palm Breeze and Casa Del Sol, alongside the Laurel Oaks community, so a single notice here reaches a good many households at one address. Twenty six of the 367 are right of way records and nine are medians rather than premises, so the number is a count of address points on the city's map and not a count of homes.

At 1,865,758 square feet, or 42.83 acres, it is the larger of the two areas live on the map this morning, close to double the 22.93 acre area at 3622 SE 5th Court that has been running since Friday.

It is large by the city's own recent standards without being exceptional. The city has logged 176 areas so far in 2026 at a median of 9.56 acres, so this one is about four and a half times the typical size, and thirteen of those 176, this one among them, are 42.83 acres or larger. The biggest of the year remains 136 Hancock Bridge Parkway, logged on June 10 at 151.87 acres.

The overlap with Saturday

Cape Coral police closed southbound Skyline Boulevard from Southwest 47th Street to Cape Coral Parkway on Saturday afternoon, and Southwest 47th Terrace from Skyline Boulevard to Southwest 8th Place, while crews worked on a broken main and flushed hydrants. Gulf Coast News carried the closures, in an item by assignment editor Layza Pinero Resto stamped 2.43 p.m., on the authority of the police department.

This site covered that closure at twenty to seven this morning, and reported then that no boil water area had appeared anywhere in the southwest of the city, while noting that a blank map is not an all clear because a new area can take a day or more to show up.

All five of the streets named in Saturday's closures fall inside the shape the city posted at 7.22.

The city has published no statement saying that the notice and the closure are the same break, and none is asserted here. What is established is that the record gives the cause as a water main break, that the area covers the closed streets, and that the map has now filled in a part of the city that was blank two hours earlier.

One field on the record sits oddly against Saturday and is reported as the city publishes it rather than explained. Its interruption hour reads 10 p.m., while the closures were reported at 2.43 on Saturday afternoon. The city defines that field nowhere, so nothing is drawn from it here.

The roads are still an open question

No reopening has been announced. The Gulf Coast News article carries the same Saturday afternoon timestamp it carried yesterday with no update block, and the outlet's local news index carries no follow up.

The state dispatch board cannot settle it either. The Florida Highway Patrol incident view was read this morning against a populated board carrying 26 incidents statewide, and it showed nothing in Lee or Collier, but Skyline Boulevard, Cape Coral Parkway West and the Southwest streets are city streets and never appear on that board at all. Its silence about them is not a reopening.

Anyone driving the southwest quarter this morning should plan for the closures to still be in place.

What a precautionary notice is and is not

None of this is a finding about the condition of anyone's water.

The city's published guidance is that most waterline breaks require a precautionary notice to everyone the break affects, that one may be issued when a main break drops water pressure below 20 pounds per square inch, and that the state Department of Health's guidelines require it. The city states plainly that a notice does not always mean the drinking water is contaminated.

Notices come down when bacteriological testing clears, and the city has previously said that takes two consecutive days of satisfactory results from the Lee County Health Department. The length of a notice measures a repair and testing timeline rather than how bad the water was.

The city's boil water page carries no street list of its own. Its only pointer to what is currently in force is a link to this same map, which makes the map the city's notice channel rather than a convenience.

The rest of the picture

The other active area, at 3622 SE 5th Court on the far side of the city, was logged at 10.45 on Friday morning and still carried no rescission this morning, which puts it past 45 hours and into a third day.

Four planned shutdowns remain on the city's calendar, and households inside those shapes should expect to be boiling water from that morning: 4620 SE 5th Place on August 11, 1019 SE 43rd Street and 1957 Diplomat Parkway East on August 12, and 1108 SE 39th Terrace on August 18.

Elsewhere the region is quiet on water. Collier County has no active advisory and the City of Fort Myers has none. There is no active Atlantic storm and no weather alert of any kind touching Lee or Collier.
