Twenty-eight percent. That is how much Texas Instruments grew third-quarter revenue from a year earlier, to $6,055m from $4,742m, according to results the Dallas chipmaker filed with the SEC just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Revenue was up 11 percent on the second quarter, and chief executive Haviv Ilan pointed to continued broad growth in industrial, automotive and data center markets.

Operating profit rose 73 percent to $2,874m. Net income was $2,425m, or $2.62 a share, against $1,364m and $1.48. The company said that per-share figure carried a 1-cent reduction that had not been in its original guidance.

Over the trailing 12 months the company generated $9.9bn of cash from operations and $8.4bn of free cash flow, a measure it calculates after capital spending and after adding back incentive proceeds under the CHIPS Act. It returned $5.81bn to shareholders over that period, $5.17bn of it in dividends, while buybacks fell 61 percent to $636m.

For the fourth quarter it expects revenue of $5.80bn to $6.30bn and earnings of $2.45 to $2.79 a share.
