NextEra Energy earned an adjusted $1.24 a share in the third quarter, up 9.7 percent from $1.13, according to its results release filed with the SEC on Wednesday. Reported earnings were far higher, at $2.28 a share, because the GAAP figure includes about $3.0bn of pretax gains on hedges that the company strips out of its adjusted number.

Florida Power and Light, the regulated utility, earned $1.62bn, up from $1.463bn, and spent about $2.4bn on capital projects in the quarter. NextEra Energy Resources added 3.7 gigawatts of renewables and storage to its backlog, 2.4 gigawatts of it batteries. The backlog now stands at about 36.7 gigawatts.

The 2026 guidance holds. The company still expects $3.92 to $4.02 a share and is aiming for the high end.

On the pending combination with Dominion Energy, hearings are set for November in Virginia and December in South Carolina, with final orders expected in January 2027. NextEra expects the deal to close in the second half of that year.
