Federal undergraduate loans first disbursed from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, carry a 6.52 percent fixed rate, the Education Department said in a notice published Thursday.

Graduate and professional Direct Unsubsidized Loans carry 8.07 percent. Direct PLUS loans for parents and graduate or professional students carry 9.07 percent. Each rate is 0.13 percentage point higher than for loans first disbursed in the previous 12-month period.

The rate stays with the loan. The department calculates each new cohort from the final 10-year Treasury note auction before June, plus a statutory add-on.
