The new guidance comes with a new definition. 3M said on October 20 that its non-GAAP figures now treat amortization of intangible assets as a special item for all periods, a change it says lifts third-quarter adjusted earnings per share by about 4 cents and the adjusted operating margin by about 40 basis points.

On that basis, adjusted EPS was $2.50, up 12 percent from $2.23, and the adjusted operating margin rose 110 basis points to 26.2 percent. GAAP EPS was $2.63 against $1.55, a figure that includes a 60 cent gain in the value of 3M's stake in Solventum.

Sales were $6.6 billion. They rose 1.0 percent, with organic growth of 0.2 percent, while adjusted sales, which exclude manufactured PFAS products, grew 4.2 percent, or 3.3 percent organically.

For 2026, 3M now guides to adjusted EPS of $9.10 to $9.15, adjusted organic sales growth above 3.5 percent and adjusted free cash flow of about $4.8 billion. Third-quarter operating cash flow was $0.5 billion, against adjusted free cash flow of $1.2 billion.
