Flutter Entertainment said on October 20 that it will restructure its UK and Ireland business and expects up to 1,400 redundancies, in an SEC filing that names British tax policy as the reason.

The plan is designed to mitigate the increases in UK gaming taxation announced in the 2025 Autumn Budget, the company said. By Flutter's account, the duty on iGaming rose 19 percentage points to 40 percent from April 2026, and the rate on sports betting, excluding horseracing, rises 10 points to 25 percent from April 2027.

The cuts reach Leeds and Dublin, along with UK and Ireland staff at Flutter hubs in Porto and Cluj-Napoca. The business employs 9,000 of the group's 28,500 people. Notifications began the same day.

Flutter expects pre-tax charges of $80 million to $90 million, mostly severance, in the fourth quarter, and says those costs were already inside the guidance it gave with its second-quarter results. The plan is still subject to consultation. Kevin Harrington, who runs the UK and Ireland business, said the company had warned a year ago that it could not absorb a rise of that size without cutting its fixed costs.
