GM earned $3.3bn in the third quarter and approved a new $20bn buyback
Twenty billion dollars. That is the size of the new share repurchase authorisation General Motors announced on October 20, after completing the $6 billion program it set out in January.
The carmaker reported third-quarter net income attributable to stockholders of $3.3 billion, against $1.3 billion a year earlier, on revenue of $50.0 billion, up 2.9 percent. EBIT-adjusted rose 21.6 percent to $4.1 billion and adjusted earnings per share reached $3.70, from $2.80.
North America carried the quarter. Its EBIT-adjusted rose to $3.6 billion from $2.5 billion, a margin of 8.7 percent against 6.2 percent, while the international business fell to $28 million from $226 million and GM Financial earned $668 million before tax, down from $804 million.
GM narrowed its full-year EBIT-adjusted range to $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion from $14.0 billion to $16.0 billion, leaving the midpoint unchanged, and raised its adjusted automotive free cash flow range to $11.5 billion to $12.5 billion. The board also declared a dividend of 18 cents a share, payable December 17.
