The IRS raised the optional standard mileage rate for business use to 76 cents per mile, from 72.5 cents, for travel on or after July 1, 2026. Kelly Phillips Erb at Forbes reported the change. Rates for medical travel and for qualified moving expenses by eligible active-duty armed forces members rise to 23.5 cents, from 20.5 cents. The charitable rate stays at 14 cents. Congress sets that one.

The IRS attributed the revision to increases in the price of fuel. Announcement 2026-11 modifies Notice 2026-10, which set the original 2026 rates in December. The original rates still apply to expenses paid or incurred from January 1 through June 30. This is the first mid-year mileage adjustment the agency has made since 2022.
