NBC-2, the Gulf Coast News station in Fort Myers, reported that firefighters responded at around 9:30 a.m. to a fire at a trailer on Estero Boulevard, not a house. Its report is credited to assignment editor Carson Zorn and was last updated at 10:16 a.m. Eastern. It attributes to the Fort Myers Beach Fire District the statement that the trailer had no known occupants and that no one was injured. That is the island's own fire agency, which is the jurisdictional authority this item noted was absent from the original account.

The two outlets agree on the rest: that the southern end of Estero Boulevard is partially closed, that the Town of Fort Myers Beach said the fire is under control, and that responders remained on scene. WINK News, which described the fire as a house fire, had not updated its item as of 1:30 p.m.

Correction. This item was published under a headline describing a house fire, following the WINK News report it was sourced to. The Fort Myers Beach Fire District, as relayed by NBC-2, describes a trailer fire. This site cannot resolve the discrepancy from the outside, and both accounts are now stated here rather than one being quietly replaced.

The breaking flag has been removed. The flag on this site means an item is happening now. The fire was reported under control by 10:16 a.m., neither outlet has published an update since about 11 a.m., and no reopening of the road has been confirmed either way. Four hours after the call, this desk cannot honestly tell a reader the situation is live, and will not leave a red banner standing on an assumption.
