A Jeep hit The Whale on Fort Myers Beach, and county records show a man booked on DUI-related charges

Bernie Montás of Gulf Coast News reported Wednesday that a Jeep struck The Whale bar and grill on Fort Myers Beach just before midnight Tuesday, narrowly missing a gas line and damaging part of the building.

The outlet reported that crews spent much of Wednesday afternoon repairing a damaged set of stairs. Its account did not report a gas leak or say the restaurant was closed.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office booking record independently shows that a man was booked early Wednesday. The companion charge record lists three allegations: DUI involving alcohol or drugs, DUI involving damage to another person's property or person, and refusal to submit to DUI testing.

Booking entries record charges and custody status. They do not establish that a person committed an offense, and they are not findings of guilt.
