Lee County commissioners approved a $6.98 million construction contract for a permanent emergency medical services station in Alva on Tuesday.
The county's official meeting packet identifies the site as 2480 Iverson Street. It describes a roughly 7,794-square-foot building with operational, living and support space for EMS personnel.
The board pulled the contract for discussion, then approved it without objection during the county's September 15 meeting.
What the Alva EMS contract pays for
The guaranteed maximum price with Stultz Inc. is $6,979,795. The work includes the building, site improvements, utility upgrades and an emergency generator.
Commissioners separately authorized up to $330,000 for signs, furniture and equipment. The county says the planned and budgeted project will use money from its General Fund capital program.
WGCU Staff reports that construction is expected to begin in October.
When the Alva EMS station is due
The county agreement gives the contractor 455 calendar days after a notice to proceed to reach substantial completion and 485 days to reach final completion. The public record does not provide the notice-to-proceed date, so it does not establish a fixed opening date.
During the meeting, Public Safety Director Benjamin Abes said the county selected the location after studying growth and EMS response times. He said the station could serve State Road 80, Joel Boulevard, Broadway and developing communities toward the county line.
The approval moves the station from planning into construction and adds permanent EMS infrastructure to Lee County's east side.
