Trump orders reviews of beef origin labels and gray wolf listings

Three reviews have deadlines.

An executive order filed for publication Wednesday tells several federal agencies to examine regulations affecting ranchers, including rules overseen by Agriculture, Interior, the FDA and the Small Business Administration, the Federal Register document shows. Agriculture and the US Trade Representative must review authority for mandatory country of origin labeling for beef and conduct an economic analysis.

Interior must determine whether gray wolves and Mexican wolves meet recovery criteria for delisting or downlisting. The department must also consider compensation rules for livestock losses and guidance on lethal removal.

The order changes none of those policies today. Agencies may propose regulations or legislation after their reviews. Implementation remains subject to existing law and available appropriations.
