Bessent says US-China trade truce extended to January 10

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States and China agreed to extend their trade truce from November 10 to January 10, giving negotiators two more months before the arrangement expires.

It buys time.

Bessent announced the extension during a Wednesday Special Report interview, as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Washington. He called the arrangement the Busan agreement and said the added time would let both governments continue work on economic issues.

The existing truce was set by President Donald Trump and Xi in October 2025. No separate Treasury or USTR notice had been posted when Money & World checked after the interview, so Bessent's public statement is the operative announcement, not evidence of a newly published signed text.
