The action reaches airlines, intermediaries and flight permissions.
The Treasury Department sanctioned 36 targets supporting Iran's aviation sector, including 27 Iranian airlines, the department said Tuesday. Treasury also named front companies and foreign intermediaries that it says supported aircraft procurement or services for sanctioned carriers.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control suspended three Iran related aviation authorizations. Treasury said those permissions had covered overflights and flights into Iran by non U.S. airlines using commercial aircraft of U.S. origin or control. Aviation safety requests can still receive individual review.
Property and interests in property of designated parties that are in the United States or controlled by U.S. persons are blocked. The same rule generally reaches entities at least 50 percent owned by blocked parties.
