South Korea's exports doubled to $61.6bn in the first 20 days of October, with chips at 44.7 percent
$61.6bn. That is what South Korea exported from October 1 through 20, more than double the $30.0bn of the same stretch a year earlier, according to provisional Korea Customs Service figures. Imports rose 42.8 percent to $47.1bn, leaving a surplus of $14.5bn.
The calendar flatters the comparison. This year's window held 13 working days against 10.5 last year, and on a daily basis exports averaged $4.74bn, up 65.9 percent and the highest the service has recorded for the first 20 days of any month.
Semiconductors supplied $27.5bn, up 222.5 percent. That is 44.7 percent of all exports, a share 16.2 percentage points higher than a year earlier.
Shipments to China rose 154.4 percent to $16.7bn and to the United States 154.9 percent to $10.8bn. The service warns that short-period figures move with working days and that some numbers may change until annual statistics are confirmed in February 2027.
