Saudi coalition says it intercepted a Houthi missile aimed at Riyadh
Saudi Arabia's military coalition said Saturday that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces toward Riyadh.
The statement came hours after the attempt.
Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said the missile was fired at dawn. In the same official notice, he said Houthi forces also tried to strike civilian targets in Baysh, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu, and that Saudi air defenses thwarted those attempts.
The Saudi Press Agency statement gives no weapon count or damage assessment for those four cities. It also does not connect reports of a fire near Riyadh's airport to the intercepted missile. That link is not established here.
