Putin orders a three-day pause in strikes on Kyiv during U.S. envoys' visit
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a three-day suspension of strikes on Kyiv beginning at midnight, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS on Saturday.
Peskov linked the order to consultations involving U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. They were expected to meet Putin in Moscow before traveling to Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday that Ukraine would not conduct air strikes during the time required for the talks and the envoys' travel. He said Russia should mirror that pause.
The Kremlin announcement covers Kyiv, not a general ceasefire. TASS said the period runs from September 5 through September 8.
No public copy of Putin's order was attached to the report. Neither side had yet established that the announced pause was holding when this brief was published.
