Twenty-one U.S. service members have died and 865 have been wounded in action across the two categories the Pentagon uses for the war with Iran, according to casualty tables updated through Oct. 9.

The Operation Epic Fury table lists 15 deaths and 417 wounded. The separate Overseas Operations table lists six deaths and 448 wounded.

The split matters. No single table shows the full count.

Seven Epic Fury deaths are classified as hostile and eight as non-hostile. The Overseas Operations monthly table records four hostile deaths in July and two non-hostile deaths in September.

The totals reflect Pentagon records, not an independent estimate.
