OpenAI endorsed four California AI safety bills that have passed the Legislature and are headed to the governor, the company said Wednesday. It named SB 813, AB 1405, SB 1119 and AB 1864.

The company also called for mandatory, capability-based national AI safety regulation. Until Congress acts, it said states should continue legislating and align around common safeguards.

The four measures cover independent risk assessments, AI auditor standards, protections for young people using companion chatbots and safeguards involving gene synthesis. None is federal law. All four still await action by California's governor.
