NVIDIA agrees to buy Hugging Face for $11.9bn and keep the platform open
NVIDIA agreed to acquire Hugging Face for about $11.9bn, subject to adjustments. It also set aside up to about $1bn in equity to retain Hugging Face employees who join NVIDIA.
The deal is not closed.
NVIDIA expects completion in the first half of 2027, after required regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. Hugging Face operates a platform where developers share and deploy open-source models, datasets and applications.
The chipmaker committed to keep that platform open. Its filing says users would remain able to upload and download models and datasets, while Hugging Face would continue supporting other silicon vendors.
NVIDIA also warned that government restrictions on open models, including models originating in China, could materially affect the platform and its own business.
