Geely Holding agrees to take 30% of NIO Power in battery-swapping deal

Geely Holding Group will contribute its entire Yiyi Power battery-swapping unit and RMB640m in cash for a 30 percent stake in NIO Power, the companies said Monday.

The deal joins two networks. Yiyi Power's commercial-mobility swapping business will be folded into NIO Power, while the companies develop common swapping technology and standards for consumer vehicles. Geely will develop compatible models and NIO Power will serve them.

NIO is moving the other way too.

The electric-vehicle maker will take a 10 percent stake in Geely's Haohan Energy charging business. The companies said they will connect their charging infrastructure.

The ownership changes take effect only after the transactions are completed. NIO says its network currently includes 4,126 swap stations and 5,307 charging stations in China.
