Kiteworks tells customers to shut systems for nine hours after a federal threat warning

Kiteworks told customers to take its systems offline for nine hours this weekend after receiving what it described as credible threat intelligence from federal intelligence authorities.

The company says customers that manage Kiteworks on their own hardware, AWS or Azure should perform the precautionary shutdown themselves. Kiteworks will handle systems it hosts.

No breach is confirmed.

Kiteworks says a threat actor may try to target some customer systems, but it has no indication that its systems or its customers' systems have been compromised. The advisory does not identify the agency, threat actor or vulnerability.

Release 9.5.1 accounts for every known vulnerability, according to the company. The warning does not apply to eight named subsidiaries, including ownCloud, Zivver and DRACOON.
