The IRS has launched a new mobile app that replaces IRS2Go and adds secure sign-in to selected Individual Online Account services, the agency said Friday.

The list is broader. Users can view available balances, make and review payments, open select notices and letters, access available transcripts and tax records, manage certain preferences and retrieve an Identity Protection PIN. Refund and amended-return status remain available.

The app is free in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Existing IRS2Go users with automatic updates receive the replacement without a separate download. The agency said it does not replace IRS.gov, telephone help or in-person assistance, and Business Tax Account and Tax Pro Account remain on the web. The IRS also warned taxpayers to use verified listings and avoid lookalike apps or unsolicited links.
