Indonesia's August trade surplus widened to $3.55bn as imports rose 19 percent

Indonesia ran a $3.55bn goods surplus in August, BPS-Statistics Indonesia reported Thursday. Exports rose 6.72 percent from a year earlier to $26.61bn, while imports increased 19.09 percent to $23.06bn.
Across the first eight months, exports reached $193.64bn and imports reached $186.39bn. That left a $7.25bn surplus.
The split was wide. Non-oil and gas trade produced a $28.54bn surplus, while oil and gas recorded a $21.29bn deficit.
Nickel and products made from it recorded the largest export increase among the 10 leading non-oil commodity groups. Their value rose $2.87bn, or 50.12 percent.
