IAEA Board reports Iran's nuclear safeguards case to the UN Security Council
The case moves to New York.
The International Atomic Energy Agency's Board approved a resolution reporting Iran's safeguards noncompliance to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, Al Jazeera Staff reported.
An EU statement to the Board said the resolution asks the IAEA director general to make the report. The EU described that as a procedural step required under the agency's statute.
The final adopted resolution was not public when this brief was published. The EU statement said the agency conducted no inspections in Iran during the reporting period because access was not provided. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful, Al Jazeera reported.
The referral puts the matter before the Security Council. Any Council action is a separate decision.
