Huawei says new Peerium architecture can link one million processors

Huawei says a new computing architecture can make as many as one million processors operate as one computer. The company announced Peerium at its annual conference in Shanghai on Thursday.

Peerium uses nested parallelism, unified memory addressing and a peer interconnect called UnifiedBus. Huawei says the bus links processors, memory, solid-state drives, network cards and switches under one protocol.

The deployment is smaller. Huawei's release says an Atlas 950 SuperCluster with 256,000 cards is being deployed. An Atlas 960 system based on near-packaged optics is still under testing.
