AI agents now make half of FRED visits as traffic grows 150 percent
AI agents now account for about half of visits to FRED, while traffic to the Federal Reserve data service is growing 150 percent a year, Governor Christopher Waller said Thursday.
Most of the growth comes from AI and bots.
FRED has introduced a Model Context Protocol connector that lets users retrieve its data with an AI agent. Waller said the service is also developing skills to help agents work with economic data and plans to link inquiries to current and historical versions through FRED, ALFRED and FRASER.
Certain Federal Reserve Board data will soon route users to FRED and its tools. Waller did not name those datasets or give a start date.
