CENTCOM says U.S. forces struck three Iranian oil tankers after missiles targeted two Navy ships
U.S. Central Command said American forces struck three Iranian crude carriers Saturday after Iran's Revolutionary Guard launched ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships.
According to CENTCOM, the aircraft carrier and a guided missile destroyer evaded multiple attacks. The command reported no American casualties.
CENTCOM said the M/T Downy, off Kharg Island, and the M/T Stark 1, near Jask, were permanently disabled. It said the unladen M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen, was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman after its crew was directed to abandon ship.
The command described the tankers as part of a network that funds the Revolutionary Guard and allied groups. That ownership and financing characterization has not been independently verified.
The statement did not identify the two Navy ships or publish evidence of the missile launches.
