California creates a standalone tax credit for film post-production
California created a standalone tax credit for film and television post-production Saturday. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 2319, and the Legislature recorded it as Chapter 343 the same day.
The credit applies beginning with 2027 tax years to qualified spending for editing, sound, visual effects, music and other post-production performed in California. It covers projects that shot elsewhere or otherwise missed the state's existing motion-picture credit, although a production cannot claim both credits.
Newsom also signed SB 186. The governor's office says it increases refundability in the existing film and television program and exempts some independent-production credits from the state's temporary credit limitation starting in 2027.
