America.gov order sets one portal for high-volume federal services
The General Services Administration must establish America.gov as a single online entry point for high-volume federal services, under an executive order filed Thursday. Login.gov will provide authentication.
Covered services are public-facing, available online and used by more than 100,000 people in a 12-month period. IRS tax filing, Department of War and intelligence services are excluded.
The existing channels stay.
The order preserves in-person, telephone, mail and agency-specific digital service. OMB has 90 days to issue implementation instructions, after which agencies must identify and integrate covered services while retaining custody of their records.
