Estero's US 41 and Pelican Sound signal remains tied to development as a resident presses for action
Estero's September 2025 traffic study recommends a signal at US 41 and Pelican Sound Drive when development east of the highway is completed. Until then, it recommends considering a right-in/right-out configuration. The village has not announced a signal construction date.

An Estero resident is pressing for a traffic signal at US 41 and Pelican Sound Drive, first reported by Lois Thome at WINK News. The village's own traffic study says the unsignalized intersection is over capacity during the morning and evening peak hours.
The September 2025 study records excessive delays for traffic leaving Pelican Sound Drive. Its March 2024 morning count logged 1,307 northbound through vehicles and 2,506 southbound through vehicles on US 41 between 8 and 9 a.m.
Estero's study recommends considering a right-in/right-out configuration as an interim safety change. It also recommends installing a signal only after development east of US 41 is completed, but the public study gives no construction schedule for the intersection.
WINK reported that resident Anina Bachrach asked the station to examine the intersection after crashes and close calls near her home. Nothing changes today. Drivers still use the full median opening. The right-in/right-out option is a study recommendation, not an announced traffic change.
