A crash has two of the three southbound lanes of US-41 blocked at Broadway Avenue West in Estero, and the Florida Highway Patrol record also has a northbound lane shut

A full frame close crop of a dark, coarse, evenly grained surface, filling the whole picture. No people, vehicles, road markings, signage, horizon or legible text are visible, and no place can be identified from it. Pexels titles it a close up of a black rough surface. An abstract texture used as a plain illustration, not a photograph of US-41, of Estero or of this crash.

A crash on US-41 in Estero has blocked two of the three southbound lanes at Broadway Avenue West, and a northbound lane as well.

The Florida Highway Patrol received the call at 11.45 a.m. on Sunday, dispatched at 11.47 a.m. and had a unit on scene at 12.03 p.m. The record is coded as a crash with injuries and a roadblock. Its remarks field reads that the left and centre lanes are blocked southbound and the left lane is blocked northbound, and asks drivers to approach with caution.

The incident was still on the state's live incident view at 1.08 p.m., six minutes after this desk first read it, unchanged, on a board that took on four new records in between. There is no cleared column in that view, so the arrival time is the arrival of the first unit rather than a resolution, and the record standing on the live board is what says it is still running.

The location matters here, because the only outlet account of the crash puts it somewhere else. Gulf Coast News published a timestamped traffic blotter for August 2 carrying a line at 11.57 a.m. that a vehicle crash had shut down all southbound lanes of US-41 at Broadway Avenue East in Lee County. The Highway Patrol location field reads Broadway Avenue West, and the latitude and longitude on that same record reverse geocode to Broadway Avenue West in Estero, in the Breckenridge area, postcode 33928. Broadway exists on both sides of the trail.

The lane count differs too. All southbound lanes and two of three southbound lanes are different instructions to a driver, and the state record adds a blocked northbound lane that the blotter does not carry. The three lanes in each direction were confirmed independently: an OpenStreetMap query for named ways within 120 metres of the crash coordinates returns two carriageways, both named South Tamiami Trail, both carrying the reference US 41, each tagged as one way with three lanes.

This site is reporting the dispatch record rather than resolving the difference. Gulf Coast News credits the item to its house byline rather than a named reporter, and neither the Highway Patrol nor the Lee County Sheriff's Office has published a statement on the crash.

Nothing in the record supports a description of the cause, and none is offered here. The Highway Patrol has released no account of how the crash happened and has named nobody.

Where we read it: Gulf Coast News.

The document: Florida Highway Patrol computer aided dispatch public incident view, read directly at about 1.05 p.m. and again at about 1.08 p.m. Eastern on August 2, 2026. The grid arrives already populated in the page HTML and its column headers, read off the accessibility header row rather than assumed, are Incident Type, Received, Dispatched, Arrived, County, Location, Remarks, Latitude and Longitude. The record reads Incident Type 'VEHICLE CRASH W/INJURIES AND ROADBLOCK', Received 08/02/2026 11:45:01, Dispatched 08/02/2026 11:47:55, Arrived 08/02/2026 12:03:05, County LEE, Location 'S TAMIAMI TRL x[BROADWAY AVE W] [ESTERO]', Remarks 'LEFT AND CENTER LANE BLOCKED SOUTHBOUND, LEFT LANE BLOCKED NORTHBOUND - APPROACH WITH CAUTION', Latitude 26.4418696135266, Longitude -81.8112253745073. There is no cleared or closed column in this grid, so the third timestamp is the arrival of the first unit and not a resolution; presence on the live view is what marks the incident open. Two reads six minutes apart returned the record unchanged, against a board that moved from 68 to 72 rows between them, so the incident was still open at the later read. The coordinates were reverse geocoded against OpenStreetMap Nominatim and return Broadway Avenue West, Breckenridge, Estero, Lee County, Florida 33928. The carriageway was checked separately through an OpenStreetMap Overpass query for named ways within 120 metres of the same point: two ways, both named South Tamiami Trail, both carrying ref 'US 41', both tagged oneway with three lanes, which is the divided pair. Three lanes in each direction is what makes the count in the remarks legible. Lee and Collier were filtered from the same read: the other live records are roadway debris in the right lane of I-75 northbound at mile marker 123 in Estero logged 12:11:52, a Silver Alert logged August 1 on Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers, and a construction closure of the Pine Ridge Road exit ramp at I-75 exit 107 in Naples logged July 31.
