Lee County deputies and animal control officers went to a home on Nuna Avenue, off Ortiz Avenue in Tice, on Monday after a dog was found dead in the driveway.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office has said that a preliminary examination of the dog does not concern its detectives or its animal control officers, and that the injuries are believed to be non-suspicious. The cause of death remains undetermined until an official necropsy can be completed.

That is the whole of the public record, and the reassuring half of it is the part that tends to travel slowest.

Nothing on the street is outstanding

There is no closure, no hazard and no warning attached to this. The response was to a single address, it happened on Monday, and the sheriff's office has already given its preliminary read on what was found.

An open case and an active emergency are not the same thing. What keeps this one open is a necropsy that has not been done yet, not anything happening on Nuna Avenue.

Nobody has been accused of anything

No person is named anywhere on the public record in connection with this. No arrest has been announced, no charge has been filed, and no agency has alleged that anyone harmed the animal.

The only characterisation anybody has offered is the sheriff's office calling the injuries believed non-suspicious, and that is a preliminary finding rather than a conclusion. The cause of death is simply not known yet.

No agency release exists

The sheriff's office has published nothing on this incident. Its news page returns an error, its home page carries no reference to Nuna Avenue, to Tice or to this response, and Lee County Animal Services has posted nothing either.
